The importance of family

Occasionally we need a little reminder about what is important in life, and the two most important things are family and what we call home. The family does involve all our extended family, but when we think about it in the strictest sense, family is mum, dad, sisters and brothers. For some of us who grew up without our parents then grandma and grandpa are family and anyone else whom we love. Family offers love, a feeling of being part of something wonderful and that all important back-up when you need it. Let’s look at some of the more important reasons why family is important.

Some Alone Time.

1.-We do enjoy our ‘me time’ but generally speaking we don’t like to be alone for very long. We need them for the support and love they provide and when we run into situations that are just too difficult to handle then there is nothing like family to support you and make you feel better about yourself. There is protection in a family group and no matter what you have done, you can be sure they will stand with you, no matter what.

We Are All Emotional.

2.- Unlike animals, we are a very emotional species and we wear our hearts on our sleeves. We need to be heard, understood and loved and we need to have a family in order to laugh and to love. The family understands you better than anyone and they know your bad habits and ticks.

Safety In Numbers.

3.- Family protects us from the things we don’t know we need protecting from. Growing up we think we know everything and that we are unbreakable. When we were young and were running around the house, we always had soft, warm carpet to run on as our parents knew that proper floor insulation was needed to protect us from ourselves. As we got older, peer group pressure becomes very prevalent, but our family has been through this too, and they give us the best advice so we can come through it relatively unscathed.

Home Is Where The Heart Is.

4.- It doesn’t matter where you go or how far you have gone. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been home in many years because once you return, it’s like you’ve never been away. There is always a place for you in the family home and most likely your room is still the same it was when you left. You are never by yourself irrespective of where you are in the world and this is a great comfort to all of us.

Family Shapes You.

5.- The family has made you the person you are today. It has shaped and molded you and taught you right from wrong. Your sense of humour and your personality have come from the influences of your family and they have helped you to be a better person.

When you have a family, nothing can stop you. There is always a group of people who are there to stand alongside you, no matter what. If you need help, they are there. If you need guidance, they are there. Family is everything and we are incomplete without them.
