Diabetes: facts, statistics, and you

When the human body doesn’t produce or less produce the insulin, doesn’t used that produced insulin, then the body is not able to get the sugar from cells, this is called the diabetes. Diabetes is a very series lifelong condition for the humans. In other words, diabetes refers as a chronic disease linked with high level of sugar in your blood. Glucose is very important energy source for cells for the body, but when the body doesn’t use this glucose is known as diabetes.

Symptoms for diabetes as:

  • Hunger and Fatigue
  • Being thirsty more often
  • Dry mouth and itching
  • Blurred vision
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Pain in legs
  • Frequent urination
  • Vaginal infections( in women)
  • Soreness
  • Painful sex
  • Urinary Infection

Generally, there are three types of diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes: It will find in human body when your immune system destroyed the beta cells in pancreas, the beta cells makes the insulin for the body. Type 1 diabetes also known as the juvenile disease as this mainly found in children and young adults. It is a chronic disease. In other words, type 1 diabetes is found in body when the required quantity of insulin is not produced by the pancreas, which may result the high blood sugar in body. Normally the symptoms are frequent urination, increased thirst, increased hunger, weight loss, blurry vision, tiredness in body, these symptoms developed in very short span of time. The cause of type 1 diabetes in unknown, but the doctors believed that the more chances of having this disease when there is a family history. We can find the diabetes after testing the sugar level in blood. If we do not take it seriously, then it may lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, non ketotic hyperosmolar coma, heart disease, heart attack, kidney failure, foot ulcers, and eye problems.

Type 2 diabetes: It is the condition where body gradually loses the capacity to produce enough insulin in pancreas, in other words, it is diagnosed in body when the pancreas do not produce the required quantity on insulin for the body. Mainly symptoms are heart attack, visions issues, foot ulcers etc. Type 2 diabetes develops in long span of time. Initially, type 2 diabetes can be treated with eating healthy and regular physical exercise. But in long time, people suffers from type 2 diabetes will take tablets or insulin. Mainly diabetes found in the family. If any family member is diagnosed, then others family members are having major chances to have same disease. People are having high risk of type 2 diabetes if they having family history of diabetes, and above the age of 55 years. Most of the people do not have the symptoms as mainly type 2 diabetes diagnosed in later age, but may find some symptoms are passing more urine, feeling tired, having cuts which healed slowly, itching, blurry vision, mood swings, headaches, leg cramp.

Gestational diabetes: It is mainly a high blood sugar level which develops in pregnancy and disappears after giving birth. It can diagnose in any month of the pregnancy but more chances for develop after four months of pregnancy. It develops when body is not able to produce required quantity of insulin, as more insulin is needed by body during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes develops more problems for the pregnant woman and for the baby during or after the birth. But you can reduce the risk if its detected on time and well treated. Any lady who is pregnant can suffer from gestational diabetes, but more chances to get victim when body mass index (BMI) is above 30, previous baby who weighted 4.5 kg at the time of born, if had gestational diabetes earlier during pregnancy and family history of diabetes. Gestational diabetes doesn’t have any symptoms, but can be identify in blood sugar test during the pregnancy for gestational diabetes, some women having symptoms like having more thirst, dry mouth, tiredness etc.

If the gestational diabetes is detected, it can be controlled by reducing sugar level in blood. Blood sugar level can be reduced by diet control and having exercised. But in most of the cases, pregnant women have to take medicines as blood sugar level doesn’t reduce enough after diet control and exercise.

If we talk about the treatment of diabetes, controlling the level of sugar in blood is the best medicine. Proper Nutrition diet is also required for the diabetic patient. The diabetic patient must follow the balanced diet. Weight reduces and exercise is also very important for type 2 diabetic patient. Oral drugs are also available in market to control the diabetes but it should use only when the sugar level is not reducing by the exercise and balance diet or you have the continuous high sugar level.

Type 1 diabetes patient cannot use the oral drugs as must take insulin for their rest of life and insure regular check their blood sugar levels and has to follow a strict diet plan. Type 1 patient can take the insulin with the help of needle and syringe, pen (looks like a pen, but containing the needle at its point), pump, inhaler, injection port, jet injector. Type 2 diabetic patient can start the drug metformin with healthy diet and physical exercise.

Metformin reduce the amount of glucose and your liver generates and helps the body to use insulin in better way. Apart from insulin, others injected drugs are also available in market, these medicines control our blood sugar level going high while we eat. When drugs, balanced diet and physical exercise are not enough to control the diabetes, than the other option is Bariatric surgery also known as weight loss surgery or metabolic surgery. Bariatric surgery helps patient with obesity to lose a weight and helps to get normal blood sugar level.

We can eat cinnamon, aloe vera, jamun and vitamin c to control our diabetes as these items are easily available in market and in home also and we should go for regular health check up to prevent or controlled the diabetes.
