The British government reported on Sunday that there have been 315 new deaths from Covid-19 in the country in the last 24 hours, the lowest daily figure reported since the end of March.
In total, the number of deaths from the disease in the UK stands at 28,466, while 4,339 new infections have been confirmed in the last day, British Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said at a press conference.
The British government has tried to play down the possibility of the UK overtaking Italy in terms of the number of deaths. “We have to wait for the still picture,” executive sources told reporters.
Yesterday, 76,496 tests were carried out to detect the disease, below the 100,000 daily targets set by the government, a level reached for the first time last Friday.
Gove stressed that the Executive will publish this week a roadmap that will advance details of the plan to begin reducing social distance measures, but warned that this strategy cannot be implemented until certain conditions are met.
