Brazil reaches 40,000 deaths from coronavirus and over 800,000 cases


Brazil confirmed 1,239 new deaths from Brazil in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 40,919, while those infected now number more than 800,000, the Health Ministry reported Thursday.

According to the bulletin, the South American giant, one of the epicentres of the pandemic, once again recorded more than 1,000 deaths per day, in addition to 30,412 new infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 802,828.

The numbers confirm the accelerated rate of spread of COVID-19 in Brazil, the second most infected country in the world after the United States, and which is also approaching the second position in terms of number of deaths, currently occupied by the United Kingdom.

According to the Ministry, 416,314 COVID-19 positive patients are still under medical supervision, while 345,595 people have already recovered from the disease and been discharged.
