China closes Beijing’s largest wholesale market for a new outbreak of coronavirus


China has announced the closure of Xinfadi, Beijing’s largest wholesale market, due to a new outbreak of locally transmitted infections among workers and people who had been in the vicinity.

Health authorities have confirmed that new cases of local transmission reported in the country on Thursday and Friday have taken place in this market in the Chinese capital.

All market personnel will have to be tested for Covid-19, the market regulation office and the Fengtai district health commission, where the market is located, said in a statement.

In addition, they have added that, to ensure the supply of products, special places for the sale of vegetables and fruits will be established. The market covers an area of 112 hectares and employs 1,500 people.

In total, 46 people have tested positive for coronavirus after detecting an outbreak of infection, so far without any symptoms.
