At least five people have been found dead during the massive manhunt for fugitive Brian Laundrie, the suspect in the death of U.S. youtuber Gabby Petito. The body of the young woman was found last September 19, but it was not until the autopsy was performed that the authorities certified that it was the influencer.
The bodies correspond to people who were missing in previous cases and of whom no clues had been found. But thanks to the interest in Petito’s case, they have found the five bodies where the authorities were looking for, according to The Sun.
One of the bodies found was that of Josue Calderon, 33. Authorities said he had been stabbed to death in North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley Overlook. Another body found was that of Robert Lowery, 46, near where Petito was found. According to police, Lowery had committed suicide.
Sara Bayard, 55, was found on a highway in El Paso County, Colorado. In that area, Petito and Laundrie had shared photos on Instagram during their travels. Chef Lauren “El” Cho, 30, who went missing in New Jersey, was found in the Yucca Valley desert in California. And near a dumpster in Mobile, Alabama, they found the body of a homeless man with no connection to the case.
Petito died strangled and far from her home. Petito’s disappearance on September 11 has taken up hundreds of hours of U.S. news coverage and her case went beyond the borders of the United States. Meanwhile, Laundrie remains unaccounted for and, although he is a “person of interest,” he has not yet been charged with any crime due to lack of evidence.
